From September 2025, working parents of children aged nine months to school age became entitled to 30 funded hours of childcare per week -- the full rollout of the government's expanded childcare programme. But rather than expanding to meet demand, providers are contracting. 16% have already reduced the number of places they offer; 49% are limiting new enrolments.

The Women's Budget Group estimated the policy carries an annual funding gap of around £5 billion. Your MP can question the Secretary of State for Education on whether funding rates are adequate, press for an independent review of provider sustainability, and raise the gap between the government's childcare promise and the reality on the ground.
